Maidstone.

Yep.

RE: Summer Transfer Window Thread - Sliced - 08-12-2020

Wrong. They signed him as a free agent after he had his contract canceled by middlesbrough due to home sickness.

Even so, that one appearance he made in his first season, was it off the bench or as a starter?

I'm just trying to establish what you define as an "instant impact"....

Nah it's super common. As a collective group we've managed to name at least one from the last 20 years......

Incredible reaching going on when you''re including the likes of:

GMac who went from Championship to Prem

McGinn who went from Scottish Prem to the Championship

Harry Maguire who went from League One to Championship to League One To Championship To Premier League.

Three. We've found three.

No one is saying players can't move up the leagues. That's ridiculous. Every footballer has moved up the leagues, whether it be from League One To Championship or Youth Football to First Team. The issue is when we're expecting players to make that jump without any opportunity to vet them in properly. As I said earlier there's nothing wrong with signing players from League One. However we should also make sure we have enough in our squad so that we're not reliant on someone who we assume will be able to score against PL quality defenders just because they got a hat trick against Tranmere Rovers. The fact that our budget is around 25m and Posh are asking 10m means we shouldn't be progressing. For a few million then fine, as long as we bring in another 2.

I agree on balance but we were reluctant to sign players from the lower leagues in our last few years in the Premier League ,instead relying on has been like Anelka, Anichebe  and Barry rather than players with potential. It helped us get relegated

I give you the "Lambert conundrum" would we have been better off signing him from Bristol Rovers or Liverpool?

The irony being I was at the Bristol Rovers pre season friendly when he scored a hat trick against us and we were jokingly singing "sign him up"!  Big Grin

Percy Freeman. The new Astle! Was the billing!
I remember him playing, I think he had a few first team games, and maybe scored
Of course Lee Hughes followed that trajectory successfully, though he didn't quite make the highest level.

It's not rare for players who start out in the lower leagues to play Premier League football..... Brunt, Dawson, Steven Reid, McAuley, Billy Jones, Matt Phillips...

They've all started out in League One or below and gone on to be PL footballers, and I'm sure many other clubs in the PL will have players in the same boat... but many will arrive via the Championship and not go directly because PL clubs have had the cash to not need to take the risk on L1/L2 players directly.

Never heard of him myself but Wigan fans saying he’s quality.

Played pretty much every game for Wigan last season. They got him from Everton at the start of last season.

He's one of those that doesn't particularly stand out but I'm assuming he has something about him as Wigan weren't a bad team.

Duffy now Celtic favourites, Antonee Robinson now Fulham enter race, Grbic Croatian goalkeeper due medical at Athletico Madrid. These are all media rumours and they are all players said to be wanted by Albion. Hope we have a long list.

Fulham have entered the race you say?!?

Well we’re definitely fucked then.
