RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 09-10-2020 Yes that's right Proth, it's all a big conspiracy to see how much they can get away with in the future. Everything has restrictions, going to the pub, shopping and work are all to keep the economy moving and you can do them with the restrictions in place but within those environments there will be spread of the virus. It is a small price to pay if we can't meet up with family members to reduce the spread even further than it is already going to happen. Everybody does understand what you are saying, and that is you want it all despite the virus not giving a shit about who is in power or what happens to the economy. We're heading into the unknown here and we have no way of knowing what is to come over the next few months. Apparently we're all allowed to got to work, shopping, the pub, restaurants - in fact anything that creates tax receipts. Yet I can't meet up with my cousin and her family. That's what I mean by sleepwalking into subservience - and if you're happy with that then bully for you. Do you think other Western govts are doing it for the same reason? Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, France, Etc. Except for Sweden every country is imposing some kind of restrictions on what are ordinairily freedoms enjoyed with in democracies. But you convince yourself that in an extraordinary time and situation govts are using the opportunity to withdraw individual freedoms in order to prepare us for a less free future? Quite a trick. You are simply a libertarian who wishes to enjoy every freedom to do whatever you want. You can’t. That is not freedom. You choose to ignore the evidence that the virus is damaging and dangerous because you want to believe it to be so. People do not just die there is distinct evidence to indicate people will also suffer long term ill effects but you also ignore this. Your wants are not needs. Your desires are not rights. Your beliefs are not a credo but a selfishness you think we should willingly embrace. That is not society. RE: UK Covid death toll - Protheroe - 09-10-2020 Show me the evidence Brentbaggie. The problem is, no one can. I suspect you are now on the wind up, and your new technique for winding people up is to look like a moron - it appears you have succeeded. RE: UK Covid death toll - baggiebuckster - 09-10-2020 Why is the Government reportedly looking to spend 100 billion on this Operation Moonshot scheme? Testing people to establish if they are negative surely only provides a short lived level of security so how frequently are they expecting people to get tested? Based on their record with implementing any testing scheme I can only imagine it is another way of taking out of the public purse to keep their mates / funders happy with ridiculous contracts that never need to be delivered. In view of the recent posts on this thread I can't work out if that answer is genuine or not? Are you saying you don't trust the Government? RE: UK Covid death toll - Brentbaggie - 09-10-2020 (09-10-2020, 11:44 AM)Protheroe Wrote: Show me the evidence Brentbaggie. The problem is, no one can. I'm not sure which evidence you're talking about. The evidence re. excess deaths - which would appear empirical, given that other countries have registered excess deaths over and above the norm and there is a virus - or the evidence re. long-term effects? Medical professionals and scientists have made several interventions and recommendations regarding the existence of lung lesions, brain impairment etc. in the short term which appear to be lasting longer than they should. The idea that "no one can" simply returns me to my observation regarding your beliefs. You don't want to believe such evidence exists and therefore it does not. Anything impinging upon your desires is automatically at odds with the reality you have created for yourself. Are we in the midst of a health crisis - not as far as you're concerned. Did thousands of people die in April, March and May and so many were il with the virus that the hospitals were at breaking point and some closed their emergency admissions depts.? Apparently not as far as you're concerned. Could it happen again unless certain precautions are taken? No, it won't, that's what you want to believe because the thought that the world has changed so that you can no longer exercise your right to do as you want is anathema to you. No one can show you the evidence? You are merely being facetious. If not then this is a pointless argument. I'd be amazed if anyone trusted this government after the past 12 months. They throw distractions out there to keep everyone busy - this 'moonshot' is exactly that, Hancock was saying in Parliament today how successful the testing regime has been, it is basically lying to put it out there. And the more that it is said the more people believe it. We are 6 months into this virus and still are having troubles with our testing programme, if we had a decent testing regime we could build on that to get improvements such as this enhanced 'moonshot' - we haven't and we can't. We are basically running blind into the winter with this and they want to spend billions on a dream.
