RE: UK Covid death toll - Protheroe - 11-18-2021 They won't be brought in here. The evidence is stacking up against them. But take Scotland for example, they’re apparently announcing an increase in their use next week. Boris is unpopular enough already, this would tip him over the edge in his own party - let alone the country. Won't happen. He already put it into the legislation and two days ago said boosters would count RE: UK Covid death toll - backsidebaggie - 11-18-2021 (11-18-2021, 06:44 PM)Borin' Baggie Wrote:(11-18-2021, 06:00 PM)Protheroe Wrote:(11-18-2021, 05:47 PM)backsidebaggie Wrote:(11-18-2021, 05:30 PM)Protheroe Wrote: They won't be brought in here. Yeah IMO it’s nailed on tbh. Despite zero evidence they work. Just need to look at other countries, that’s the direction of travel. Hopefully it won’t go as far as Austria… but I suspect it will. And worse. And the fact is, there’s plenty of people now actually cheering this on. The division has been created, you’re pro vax or anti vax. You can’t be pro vax but not want this one. Or just be a young age and not at great risk of severe covid and not want it. Or want to wait a bit. No nuance any more. Divide and rule. I’m repeating myself here, but give it a couple of years, and the quadruple boosted will be having a go at those who stopped at a couple or three boosters. “Bloody idiots, get your 4th booster, it’s people like you who are the reason we’re still in this mess”….. RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 11-18-2021 Strangely we're not 'in this mess' at the moment, we've had 4 months where the hospitalisations have been pretty stable. We have to expect we will have an increase over the next few months but nothing so far indicates that it will be anywhere near as bad as last year. I do think it is important to get the boosters rolled out to the same levels as the normal jabs but am surprised that they have reduced the amount of places you can get jabs now, my nearest one to book is about 4 miles away and I live 1 mile from Solihull town centre. Don't forget as well we have half the number as last year in hospital and we are virtually back to normal life now. RE: UK Covid death toll - baggiebuckster - 11-18-2021 Only a matter of time before 'fully vaxxed' means 2 jabs plus the booster. RE: UK Covid death toll - Derek Hardballs - 11-18-2021 Today’s figures… For those who can’t have the vaccine but would dearly love to and their families I think the idea they are better off this year will ring very hollow. Over a thousand people a week dying of a ‘bad cold’ ffs as someone on the football side of the board described it is acceptable now in the U.K. As is the abandonment seemingly of even the most modest precautions! Here’s how the U.K. and its government are doing over the long term with regards Covid not just a snap shot of a couple of months in 2021 Stats on death rates and infections RE: UK Covid death toll - Ted Maul - 11-19-2021 (11-18-2021, 11:38 PM)Derek Hardballs Wrote: Today’s figures… Out of interest what would be the precautions you would like to see reinstated? Probably the only thing the Government should have done and would just about have support to bring back in would be mandatory masks indoors, on public transport etc. There is no way they would be able to bring back capacity limits and rules on household mixing now. RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 11-19-2021 We have to accept that there will be more deaths as a result of covid Dekka. It's a new disease and we have to accept that people will die from it especially at this time of year and over the next few months. Looking at the current weekly deaths figures for E&W (week 44 to 5th Nov latest published) we had 10,887 deaths total, compare that with the 5 year average to 2019 which was 9,891 which tallies with your 1k a week extra deaths. But comparing it with 2020 figures (for week 45 to 6th Nov) which were 12,254 which were 2.5k over the 5YA shows how much we have 'improved'. The next few months will be tough and I hope and pray that people realise that we do need the boosters and we do need to keep up the basic measures (masks and washing hands) but there is some optimism in the current figures tinged with the realism of the extra inevitable deaths. One final stat from the ONS for week 44. Deaths involving influenza and pneumonia mentioned on the death cert = 2,086. Deaths involving Covid-19 mentioned on the death certificate = 995. It really has been a shit show over the last couple of years but despite the governments best efforts to fuck it up we have got to a point where as a nation we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, we're not at the end yet though and we do need to buckle in until spring. |
