Deaths 22nd October 2021 Or Why is this ok? We are doing badly by design whatever the measure. We can pretend it’s to do with how many people we are testing but it’s clearly our complete lack of any real safety measures currently in place. I am staggered at the apathy of our population or perhaps it’s just too much trouble to care anymore? Spain currently has 60000 active infections. We have a million. RE: UK Covid death toll - Derek Hardballs - 10-23-2021 Quote:Speaking to Sky News, Prof Reicher, a member of the Scientific Pandemic Insights Group on Behaviours (SPI-B), which feeds into SAGE, said: "The vaccine is wonderful. The vaccine confers a huge advantage and everyone should get vaccinated but on its own it's not quite enough, we need other protections. Full report here RE: UK Covid death toll - Birdman1811 - 10-23-2021 I'll be very, very shocked if we see another lockdown. The public support isn't there, and how often can governments tell legal businesses they have to stop trading before said companies start kicking up a fuss? This has, unsurprisingly, been poorly managed since the start, and we don't seem to learn, at all. RE: UK Covid death toll - Brentbaggie - 10-23-2021 The questions that no one seems to ask is why are our numbers of deaths and infections acceptable, when compared to those in the rest of Western Europe? Why do the measures taken their with relative equanimity seem so draconian to this government and theoretically the people? Or is it, as so often the case, about the money? In which case how is it that those other economies seem to be on a par with ours, but with fewer infections and deaths? RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 11-18-2021 It's probably worth giving an update on where we are with hospitalisations in England for information. At the end of July we appeared to be on an upwards curve that was multiplying exponentially as we have see over the past couple of years. Around the start of August we had about 5k in hospital, by mid-September we were up to about 6.3k but it had been a very slow rise to that point. By the start of October we were back down to about 5k again and then another slow increase (albeit a bit steeper than August/Sept) that took us to over 7.5k at the start of November. This was concerning as we go into the winter period but we were in a position where we were better off in numbers than in 2020 at the same time. During November the numbers have steadily decreased and we currently have just under 6.5k in hospital. Compared to this time last year we have half the numbers in hospital and although we do still have to be careful we should recognise that we are in a much better position than the rest of Europe appears to be. The big point is that we shouldn't take the foot off covid's throat as it is still very much alive, but considering I was out at the weekend in Brum and it was as busy as it ever was, we still have managed some good numbers. It's important to get your booster jabs to make sure that we can get through this winter but it does look optimistic. Well perhaps not quite the sickest!!!! Nearly 38,263. per day compared to Germany’s nearly 53,000 per day!!!! “"Europe's map is quickly going red, and we are the same." Belgium PM. “Austria which imposed a lockdown on an estimated two million unvaccinated people on Monday, reported record daily infections on Wednesday.” “The Netherlands, which also reported record cases, has already brought in a partial lockdown.” “France is being hit by a fifth wave of Covid, according to government spokesperson.” www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-59320515 Cases in the UK | Coronavirus in the UK (data.gov.uk) coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases Another example of ignoring the facts, eh! Just to have yet another dig at the U.K. As B1 writes “ we should recognise that we are in a much better position than the rest of Europe appears to be.” “…but it does look optimistic.” RE: UK Covid death toll - Ted Maul - 11-18-2021 (11-18-2021, 03:27 PM)JOK Wrote:(10-18-2021, 05:13 PM)Derek Hardballs Wrote: What is wrong with this country when this becomes acceptable… the sick man of Europe literally! Fair points, but you have just taken a post DH made a month ago. With the roll out of the boosters we're now far from the sick man of Europe. RE: UK Covid death toll - backsidebaggie - 11-18-2021 And many of the countries that brought in vax passports domestically a few months ago have seen cases rise significantly anyway. Yet still they’ll be brought in here, despite no evidence of them actually working (and that’s before the moral argument). |
