RE: UK Covid death toll - Ted Maul - 07-08-2021 (07-08-2021, 09:43 AM)baggy1 Wrote: Some data on admissions has been released this morning that breaks down ages although not ideally because they have lumped together the 18-54 age group which is a bit wide. Good statting once again. You would expect the 18-54 category to drop as more and more U40s especially are double-jabbed. I'd say these are some of the key figures behind the Govt lifting of restrictions on the 19th. It was always going to be a gamble, but looking at those figures in the 80+ group, then you would have to say it's a gamble worth taking. These are not necessarily going to be hospitalisations but they are going to be debilitating for many young people. A gamble worth taking… erm no (07-08-2021, 10:22 AM)Protheroe Wrote:(07-07-2021, 01:31 PM)baggy1 Wrote:(07-07-2021, 01:25 PM)Protheroe Wrote:(07-07-2021, 12:48 PM)Derek Hardballs Wrote: Professor Reicher Ok, how about over a hundred leading scientists / health experts from across the U.K. and abroad? RE: UK Covid death toll - Protheroe - 07-09-2021 (07-08-2021, 10:25 AM)Derek Hardballs Wrote: Ok, how about over a hundred leading scientists / health experts from across the U.K. and abroad? I work with law firms every day. Every lawyer I've ever met is risk averse, it's in their nature and it is their job. I'd wager that the vast majority of epidemiologists are also risk averse. It does not surprise me in the slightest that the health mafia would prefer to keep us in semi-permanent lockdown. It's completely in their interests to do so, and it provides them with a degree of power and control over the population that they've never had before. They're also completely unaccountable. I prefer decisions of this sort to be taken by politicians weighing up the balance of evidence and the balance of wider risks to the nation. We can chuck them out if they get it wrong. Can we? I would be able to put forward a pretty solid case that it has already gone wrong and the only one that has got chucked out was because he got caught snogging the aid, not because of the 125k deaths, contracts scandals, massive waste in public spending and obvious failures when it came to locking down at the right times. I would expect this answer answer from a libertarian and I like the sentence if they get it wrong we can Chuck them out… that will be some comfort to vulnerable people who may or may not survive this experiment or the children who get needless long Covid. Perfectly put in this article, and is what I’ve been arguing ever since those who have now imo selfishly decided because they and their loved ones are vaccinated it doesn’t matter or at best it’s easier, more palatable to ignore the plight of others who cannot be. It doesn’t matter! RE: UK Covid death toll - Birdman1811 - 07-09-2021 It's hard to not think a more cautious approach until we get more vaccines out would be better. The amount on furlough is small, and we can open a lot of the businesses left closed with some restrictions if required. Just pretending covid19 has been beaten seems rather gang ho. And I don't think any further measures introduced to curb a spike if it goes wrong will be followed. Open up cautiously. We've come too far to get completely complacent, shirley? RE: UK Covid death toll - richbaggie - 07-09-2021 To me it's clear what the plan is. The take up of jabs was always going to slow down the younger the age group got. The vast majority of the vulnerable will have double jabbed protection by mid July. The govt think that the deaths will stay at a palatable level. 99% of deaths have been over 40s and by mid July the majority will have had double jabs in the 40 plus demographic.. Schools closing and normally quieter hospitals in the summer feed into that confidence. I think they are happy to let it rip through the unprotected before Autumn and winter. RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 07-09-2021 In fairness I think the take-up in the younger generation has been pretty good by the looks of it. 1st jabs still going up by 0.2% of the adult population daily means it will likely get to 90% and over. And I agree that the deaths figure is not the focus now, that appears to be at an acceptable level. The concern must be with the hospitalisations though, they are rising and at a comparable rate to previously and let's not forget we are still have restrictions in place. Ill check later today but the hospitalisations are increasing across the country and it is a gamble to switch everything off - the only issue with a gamble is that there can be a winner or a loser, if Johnson loses this gamble will he be the one that pays? If hospitalisations continue to rise and hospitals have to cancel clinics, procedures and surgeries then this impacts a lot more than the covid cases. They will be the real losers. |
