RE: '24 Transfer Speculation Thread - Lightnin - 07-10-2024

We were asking for double that for Swift last season. How long does he have left on his deal? I still don’t think we have a no.10 for our system. Him and Grady just don’t play it well enough.

Osho has left Luton - would be all over that on a free.

Swift has a year left on his deal. Given that he will be on a big contract having arrived on a Bosman, along with approaching 30, he's one I'd happily move on. He's a talented player but I think we could get someone in who contributes just as much for probably half the contract he's likely to be on.

Hell get a top flight move. No chance.  Good player though.

Agree.

Swift has flattered to deceive here really. Reading fans said he was inconsistent but I think he showed greater consistency for them than he’s managed to with us. Another that may have had better numbers with a more effective striker in front of him, but given he will be another ageing set of legs on decent money we need to look at moving on.

I think I could accept a season of mid table transition this year provided I saw progress on the squad. It will be very difficult to ship out big money “quality players” and replace them with younger, cheaper options and maintain the same level of performance and success. As long as we have some shrewd recruitment and show signs of improvement I think a mid table finish wouldn’t be the end of the world.

+2 If we ship out a load, then it should be accepted that we may not be setting the table on fire

On the other hand, there's three weak relegated teams that will be in the mix this season, it won't be the same next year as I reckon some bigger clubs may tumble, so part of me thinks we need to do what we can this season.
