Anglophobic political posturing by nations in an attempt to cover up their own (and the EU's) abject failures in vaccine procurement and roll out. Fuckwittery of the highest order. So why then are the European Medicines Agency (EMA) - the EU's medicines regulator - meeting today to review the vaccine. Why have the likes of Macron been spreading anti Oxford vaccine nonsense? Lots of politics going on for me from EU member states. I’ve just mentioned three countries that aren’t in the EU. I’m sure there are politics at play but it’s individual erm sovereign countries that are making these decisions. I don’t think they are right and I’m sure it’s an excuse to cover their own bottoms. RE: UK Covid death toll - strawman - 03-16-2021 So just for fun the risk analysis is currently I don't know how many have died from the blood clots but I'm going to say half of them (Don't think it's anything like that) just for the comparison So if half of those with blood clots die the risk is 0.0001% - the risk of falling out of bed and killing yourself is also 0.0001% The risk of dying in a car accident this year is 0.005% and in your lifetime is 0.416% So you are probably more likely to die driving to get the vaccine than you are from the vaccine However if you play the lottery then you are more likely to die from all the above than win the jackpot Have a nice day RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 03-16-2021 (03-16-2021, 10:17 AM)Cunninghamismagic Wrote:(03-16-2021, 08:57 AM)Derek Hardballs Wrote:(03-16-2021, 08:45 AM)baggy1 Wrote:(03-16-2021, 08:19 AM)Cunninghamismagic Wrote: Pretty disgusting of the EU to be playing politics with peoples lives over the Astra Zeneca jab. The UK MHRA and the WHO are also meeting to review the vaccine - that is what they do. There has been an issue highlighted which needs looking into, the EMA have advised to continue using. If individual countries do something stupid that is not the EU. The usual subjects not understanding what goes on again I see, it does make you look daft CIM when you just take what the Daily Express says as gospel. RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 03-16-2021 Week 9 figures are out (to 5th March) for E&W showing that as regards excess deaths we are nearly back to normal as there are less than 500 more than the 5YA and only 100 more than the worst year in the last decade. Interestingly, and indicating that the vaccines are working, for the different age groups the numbers are roughly the same as last year (pre-covid) for the over 70s and still about 20% higher for the 45-70s group. With 1st doses of the vaccination now at 24.5M which is just short of half the adult population and 2nd doses up to 1.6M plus the news that they will be stepping up the delivery of vaccinations this week then it really does feel like we are on the right track. My concern now is the other European countries and their slow delivery which is resulting in a 3rd wave of infections. Surely we now need to close the borders to these countries to stop people travelling between them and bringing the virus back in. This was a massive mistake that we made 12 months ago, after all the hard work on vaccinations it would be a major blunder to open everything up at this point when we are still measuring the effects of the vaccination and our national restrictions being slowly removed. So it turns out that they were meeting today to say that there is no issue with the vaccine causing blood clots and that the member states that had blocked the AZ vaccine are wrong. There we go. Véronique Trillet-Lenoir, who is a French oncologist and an MEP, is asked by BBC News why the AstraZeneca vaccine is coming under more scrutiny than other authorised vaccines such as the Pfizer vaccine. "We have maybe a specific regard on AstraZeneca. As you know, the firm did probably not fulfil all the commitments [it] made in the contracts with the EU. The vaccine is not that effective on the South African variant, so there are some warnings on these vaccines, which probably led the governments to be even more cautious on it." No definitely nothing political at all

Agreed but I'm there are other options than "making yourself look a obfuscatory twat" |
