The normal incidence of blood clots in the general population is 1 in 1000 annually, and there have been 40 cases after 17M doses administered. The next bit is guesswork to calculate an equivalent so if i've got this wrong, apologies. We've had 17M doses in (rounded down) 2 months with 40 cases so times 40 by 6 to get to a 12 month equivalent and we have 240 cases in 17,000,000 which equates to about 1 in every 70,000 incidence compared with 1 in 1000 normally. France and Germany halted it now RE: UK Covid death toll - Borin' Baggie - 03-15-2021 (03-15-2021, 04:22 PM)strawman Wrote:(03-15-2021, 03:30 PM)Borin' Baggie Wrote:(03-15-2021, 11:06 AM)baggy1 Wrote:(03-15-2021, 10:50 AM)strawman Wrote:(03-15-2021, 09:35 AM)baggy1 Wrote: Netherlands has also now suspended use, it appears to be madness. Yeah, saw that Germany has. Still not sure how this is politicking. The DRC, Indonesia, Norway and Iceland have reacted in the same way in halting the AZ rollout and they're not in the EU. I think it's easier to look at Austria which has opted to suspend certain batches (suggesting manufacturing issues that we're independent from), and the EMA have still recommended using the AZ vaccine while they conduct tests. RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 03-15-2021 Seems bonkers whichever way you look at it - there appear to be around 50 cases of blood clots globally and this also seems to be related to 3 health care workers in Norway who have had unusual symptoms. Worst case scenario is that there was a bad batch but the fact we have had millions vaccinated with AZ in the UK should allay any fears. I think given that the EMA, who are famously risk averse, are still recommending continued usage suggests there's no practical risk. RE: UK Covid death toll - Derek Hardballs - 03-15-2021 Oh.... Truly baffling.., RE: UK Covid death toll - Cunninghamismagic - 03-16-2021 Pretty disgusting of the EU to be playing politics with peoples lives over the Astra Zeneca jab. It's the individual countries CIM not the EU (which kind of highlights your misunderstanding of how the EU works and why you didn't like it I guess) and as much as I don't understand why they are doing it I can't really believe this is politicking. It is madness though. And we should really consider closing the borders to Europe at the moment with their cases going through the roof again. Are Norway, Iceland and thr Congo in the EU? It’s a nonsense but as ever CIM calls it wrong RE: UK Covid death toll - Ossian - 03-16-2021 (03-16-2021, 08:45 AM)baggy1 Wrote:(03-16-2021, 08:19 AM)Cunninghamismagic Wrote: Pretty disgusting of the EU to be playing politics with peoples lives over the Astra Zeneca jab. Does anybody know - with the AZ vaccine requiring less critical distribution and storage conditions than the Pfizer one - whether stocks can be moved on to countries which would be happy to use them, rather than allowing their use-by dates to expire? I've read some reports of stocks being allowed to go to waste, which seems criminal in a pandemic and with numbers still on an upwards curve in some countries. RE: UK Covid death toll - strawman - 03-16-2021 The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are also being investigated for possibly causing low platelet levels, which can cause excess bleeding and bruising. All vaccines will have side effects - in some people they may be fatal. A 0.0002% chance of getting a blood clot or bleeding is probably a better bet than getting Covid |
