Look at you getting all schadenfreude. Guessing those tariffs have come as a surprise to you

RE: Growth - Protheroe - 06-12-2025

It was exports before the tariffs that caused the growth in Feb & March.

RE: Growth - baggy1 - 06-12-2025

Good job they got those trade deals done then isn't it. Repairing some of the damage done by Brexit can only be a good thing surely.

RE: Growth - Protheroe - 06-12-2025

Any deals that make trade more free are to be welcomed. But we're a service-based economy - the downturn was driven primarily by a 0.4% fall in services output, which includes the legal and property sectors. Legal activity alone plunged 10.2%, linked to recent changes in Stamp Duty rules that appear to have temporarily frozen transactions in these markets.

Nothing to do with tariffs.

RE: Growth - baggy1 - 06-12-2025

You don't think that the legal activity dropped in April because most transactions were pushed through in March to beat the stamp duty increases and they were up in Feb and March for the converse reason - which kinda shows how pointless is is getting excited about month on month changes.

Did you miss the word "temporarily"?

RE: Growth - baggy1 - 06-12-2025

I didn't miss the post 'oh dear'

Now Reeves is saying taxes will need to go up. Strange how none of the so-called=experts on here saw that coming!

Well she didn't see it coming when announcing last year no more tax rises this Parliament.

So growth has stalled. Spunk Tax and Borrow  has begun. The classic Labour way.
