I didn't think as a true believer Proth was allowed to move to EU. A brexit benefit of the sunlit uplands that he campaigned so hard for.

Stuffing the junior doctor's mouths with gold whilst getting absolutely zero in return was gross incompetence. Does anyone seriously disagree with that?

"Pay some tax"?

What do you think I've been doing for decades?

If your question is, "would you rather your family benefitted from your assets when you die, rather than the State" then the answer is absolutely yes.

I find it truly incredible that there's so little outrage on here, and generally in the UK that the State has progressively taken more and more from us every year since Blair was elected. Millions are paying 40% tax who historically would be nowhere near that threshold had it been increased in line with inflation. Ludicrous tax traps have been created even for those on modest wages.

All the incentives to set up a new business have gone, even to the bizarre extent that employees of a micro business grossing the same amount will pay less tax overall than the owner.

Successive governments have taken a larger and larger share of our pie. And what do we have in return? Political incompetence, the worst services in living memory and a complete inability for the young to build wealth. Why on Earth would I encourage my children to remain in such an environment?

I have to say that I am amazed how little Labour has helped small business’s or freelancers. Every policy they bring out at best just ignores them, at worst penalises them. Given several sectors rely on such business’s and individuals it’s depressing how lopsided the gains ‘working people’ have seen under this government. Lovely for those in the public sector or on low wages on PAYE jobs, but feck all for those who don’t rely on big companies or organisations to make a living. I do appreciate this government and the last don’t want freelancers and are ambivalent to small businesses but you’d have hoped that they might at some point realise they are integral to the countries economy.

It’s almost as if this government only knowledge of work is via the public sector, their political party or the Unions.

It’s almost like their focus is on rebuilding the countries infrastructure 1st. Something you have been banging on about for years.

Oh so the small business and feelancers who are helping to fund the rebuilding of the countries infrastructure have to just ‘shut up and go away’ and expect no incentive to work for themselves with no safety net to fall back on, whilst those in the public sector and larger business get looked after. You do realise that at no point in the last twenty years have small businesses or freelancers been anymore than an afterthought to the rest of the workforce, how long should they keep patience with this situation? Or should they all just go and work for the NHS and Amazon?

You sound more and more like a No10 Adviser everyday.

Not at all, but this is part of growing up Dekka. You have to realise that there is only so much money to go around, it might come as a surprise to you but the country is fucked and rebuilding it whilst giving away tax breaks for all is not going to work.

Did you get any time to think of what alternative to Starmer you’d like?

Spot on Dekka.

Why on Earth would you start a small business in the UK today B1? I've started 3 in the last 15 years and I'll be winding them all down over the next 4 years as there's no incentive whatsoever to continue. How on Earth is that good for the country?

So you want to squeeze the crap out of small business owners and freelancers via tax. You don’t want to tax the wealthiest in society anymore than they are, but you think that those who work in the public sector or via PAYE should get more money and more protection than those without a safety net to fall back on.

Ultimately you’ve nailed your support to the most unpopular PM in decades who and let’s get back to the title of the thread, employed Peter Mandelson who No10 knew was dodgy at the time. It’s embarrassing B1, you must be one of handful of people who still thinks he’s an asset and not hindrance to your party.

RE: Mandelson - baggy1 - 02-04-2026

Not at all, I’m simply asking you for a credible alternative. You don’t have one, and a large enough proportion of the country are swayed by the media coverage and see Farage as that alternative. You keep moaning and you’ll get what you want.

For someone who thinks they can talk down to others, you can’t seem to recognise your support which I’ve noticed has now shifted to ‘least worst’ for Starmer is the reason Reform are doing so well. He’s lost support from the left if his party, left leaning voters and for what? To be popular with whom? A very narrow demographic in the right of his party?

RE: Mandelson - baggy1 - 02-04-2026

It’s your own sense of insecurity that feels you are being spoken down to. This is the real world Dekka where I’m not going to cushion you from the hard words that might hurt. On one hand you accuse me of being a No10 spokesperson and then in the other claim I am saying they are least worst. You want everything for everyone and moan at everything whilst offering no solution.
