In his first season I said anything over ten would be an excellent return, given his all round play, minus goals is excellent.

RE: Heggebø - EastMidsBaggie - 09-15-2025

I don’t think people are really criticising him.
Most have been pleased with his start up until Saturday. I’ve been impressed how he’s played as a focal point in a different way to what we’ve had up front in recent seasons.
He was superb in the previous game against Stoke.
However, strikers must score goals and he doesn’t really look like scoring at present and seems to lack that nous and timing to get on the end of things in the box.
Maybe, as he continues to learn at this level, he’ll hit a bit if a purple patch likes some strikers can though hopefully sooner rather than later as we struggle to get the other striking options fit and on the pitch.

Everyone quite rightly compliments his work rate and hold up play.

However just saw his stats for the 5 league games - 5 shots and one on target total.

If we continue to play one striker then this needs to improve quickly. We can't rely on Price scoring every game.

RE: Heggebø - Josh1873 - 09-15-2025

It's a team game. Goals should be coming from all sorts of positions and players.

Obviously I'd love a striker who could get us 20 goals a season, but that's actually a rarity, and relying on just one player is always a gamble. What if they get injured?

Easy tiger x

Anyway back to the point of the thread, Heggebo is the focal point for the attack, he holds the ball up and brings others into play, without him the way we are playing would fall apart. Collectively we don’t score many goals, it’s not solely his responsibility to bring players into play then be on the end of those attacks he helped make happen. Particularly when you sell your best player at creating chances from crosses into the box. If fans want a player like that it’s going to cost more than we paid or there will be other factors that make them available such as their propensity to get injured such as Maja.

He’s young and has come from a league with less quality, but he will continue to develop as a player, his selection at the focal point to enable the team to get up the pitch and turn defence into attack is being hugely underestimated.

The same fans who have spoken about developing a squad of ‘young hungry players’ who have potential to get better over time are the same fans who are now expecting the finished player who can hold up play, score goals and create chances for others week in, week out.

Others can argue Maja should play but Heggebo performances and our results haven’t warranted him being dropped, plus he Maja hasn’t been able to keep himself fit consistently for months.

The criticism seems churlish to me, and is another reason I am sceptical that our fanbase has the patience to see the moneyball approach succeed. Fans moaned about lankshear last year, he’s now scoring goals for Oxford, our fanbase has no patience for a ‘project’. We will all need to get used to the fact we are not going to have an off the shelf, ready to go squad that we used to be able to buy under TM, RDM and others.

It's actually better, and worse than that.

He's had 11 shots, only 1 on target. However he is in the top quarter in pretty much everything except goals and assists. His defensive work, link play, chance creation for others, etc is all top.

Another key thing is he's registered a 'Goal Contributing Action' in half the goals we've scored. So although he may not be on the end of stuff, or providing the final pass. He's constantly involved in our more positive play providing the third highest number of shot creative actions in the team as well.

RE: Heggebø - Duffers - 09-15-2025

Heggebo has been very good so far this season.

He wasn’t good on Saturday but he still has plenty of credit in the bank.

RE: Heggebø - WorcsWBA - 09-15-2025

He's not wearing Billy's Boots (for those old enough to remember), so he needs the other players to work to create chances for him; all strikers do. It's evident that we're not doing that well enough currently.

Go back a few pages he’s getting praised, one defeat and he’s a waste of money, can’t score, should be dropped.

Really bizarre. A quick look at the ratings thread from our match against Stoke was universal praise, now one game later he's not good enough. https://wbaunofficial.org.uk/showthread.php?tid=38533&highlight=heggebo

Can those of us who've always raised his lack of goals not be lumped in with the knee jerkers please.

Absolutely. It was more a surprise that the general consensus seems to have gone from "Absolute machine" to "Drop him"

It's almost like we've got a functioning striker but not the supporting midfield or wide options to profit from his efforts...
