It's The Ashes (again) - Cheshire East Baggie - 05-16-2023 Squad named for the warm-up against Ireland. Jofra crocked for the summer, so Wood is the only quick bowler. Jimmy managed one day in the latest round of Championship matches, before a groin strain saw him off. Woakes gets a surprising recall, mainly due to the plethora of injuries to other seamers. Bairstow takes over from the wicket-keeper - apparently we prefer to play without one. Zak Crawley unbelievably keeps his place. And the rather ordinary Jack Leach is the only spinner. Will Bazball be good enough to beat the old enemy? Will Stokes be able to stand up, never mind run, on his dodgy knee? Will Jimmy's groin improve enough for him to play at least 3 of the games? Could go either way IMO. RE: It's The Ashes (again) - AnelkasBeard - 05-16-2023 I'm honestly appalled at the fact Foakes has been dropped and Crawley hasn't. Bairstow's batting also historically suffers when he has the gloves. Send Bairstow in to open, with full license, he'll score at least as many as Crawley would, and hopefully more. And let Foakes continue his role. He's batted well, never mind the keeping. RE: It's The Ashes (again) - Cuzer - 05-16-2023 We've gone from having an embarrassment of riches in the fast bowling department with a "battey of pace" awaiting the Convicts to now scratching around to fill spaces at the required level Whilst we roll out the red carpet for Marnus and Smithy to get their eye in, good old British spirit! No issue with Bairstow for Foakes personally, just like the extra batting option but Foakes has done little wrong With the Aussies also playing the Indians in what will be a competive test prior to the Ashes I'd see them being better prepared and ready to go than us come Edgbaston, regardless it should be a good series, don't see Stokes bowling a ball all summer and hardly worth a place as a stand alone batsmen on current form Cuzer RE: It's The Ashes (again) - Fido - 05-16-2023 (05-16-2023, 12:51 PM)AnelkasBeard Wrote: I'm honestly appalled at the fact Foakes has been dropped and Crawley hasn't. RE: It's The Ashes (again) - rsbaggy2 - 05-16-2023 Foakes should never have lost his place, and if Bairstow was to be brought back in then Crawley seemed to be the obvious fall guy. Strange decisions but if it works then there will be no quibbles. For Archer read Anichebe. Will never be a fixture in the test side and whilst he is earning good money in the IPL does have have the motivation to wish it different? Ridiculous. What the hell has Dan Lawrence done to deserve selection? RE: It's The Ashes (again) - MrFizz - 05-16-2023 Here we go then. Episode 4,363 of the Cuzer v RS Arguments About Cricket. Lets just enjoy a Summer of leather hitting willow, and hopefully a darn good thrashing for the Aussies. Methinks you are hoping for this in an almost voyeuristic kind of way!
