At last a grown up decision by the Labour Party the first in a decade. A working class man, from a comprehensive school background that is both successful and importantly not someone who has forgot his roots or ideologically wedded to nonsensical ideals, doctrines and unpalatable beliefs.

There was a suggestion in something I read that the margin of victory may be important if Starmer wants to move on from Corbyn and promote others rather than the those Corbyn has in place (though I don't think he can chuck some of them out - depends on the position) - how convincing was it?

he polled just over 56% and won in the first round, Angela Raynor got 52% as deputy by the 3rd round.

seems a bit weird that potential leadership candidates cannot become deputy

Agreed. Though I'm happy with Raynor.
Meh. Heart said RLB, head said Starmer though I think the next election is a write off anyway and we should just be prepping rayner/RLB for the job next time round.

His job for the next 4 years is to get his nose up murdoch's arsehole like Blair did whether we like it or not. Stem the tide of smears, get the hard of thinking sections of electorate seeing Labour as a serious proposition again. A knighted human rights lawyer should hopefully be a harder target than corbyn. I take solace from the fact that during New Labour, Starmer would've been seen as 'loony left' so hopefully he will maintain the socialist principles of the party going forward rather becoming red Tories again.

Though if Johnson keeps splashing money around we could be living in a socialist utopia sooner than we think! ??

RLB would have been political suicide.
Yes I know, that's why I said head said Starmer?
Another white, male, middle class leader of the Labour party. #theparyofdiversity
Wasn't it Starmer who forced Jezza to swing to an anti Brexit stance that helped see them wiped out at the last election?
He reminds me of Clegg and will end up in the same position, allied to the Tories and then dumped into oblivion at first opportunity.
Lisa nandy would have got the midlands and northern vote ........a big mistake imo

Labour were polling in third before that pivot, behind the Lib Dems.
