I was going to post earlier that this had the same feel about it as when Stoke were first reported to be interested in Rowett. Derby immediately gave him an improved contract.

This then backfired on us even more when we had to pay them much more compensation when we made him our manager 5 months later

There's a name who's been keeping a worryingly low profile of late.

You'd think he'd have to turn up somewhere soon, but I think he'll have to lower his sights and rebuild his reputation again.

Indeed.
You can usually get away with one blip on your CV but 2 very poor performances following a lot of money spent is tough to bounce back from... he needs to go and do a good job on a tight budget again.

I've got some sympathy for him to be honest. I'm pleased we replaced him with Jones, but I don't think Rowett's a bad manager. He just wasn't expecting us to be quite the basket case club that we actually were. By the time he realised, the money had already been spent which ultimately made the situation worse.

Kevin Phillips recommending Afobe over Dwight Gayle didn't help matters either.

I'm surprised at KP recommending that. If there's anyone who knows what a good striker is, it should be him.

Well done Agent Phillips.

Still not quite sure how things have gone so wrong for you lot. Most on here last summer were convinced you'd tear up the Championship.

Most of us didn't really know which way it was going to go until we signed Afobe and Ince. Both seemed to come with reputations of being too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Prem. We also managed to retain Allen and Bauer, so on that basis, a lot of us could see a much brighter future.

Unfortunately, Ince has only shown in flashes what he can do, Afobe is as much a footballer as I am, we found out that Bauer can run far and fast, but that's it, and after three years we still don't know what position Allen's playing in.

Add to that the world's leakiest Premier League defence remaining very sieve-like in the Champ, and you end up lower midtable and in need of a manager to rip it up and start again, which is what we now have. Hopefully.
