The speculation has started, I will wait and see what happens because all we know at present is we might be sold. Also that we have a number of players out of contract at the end of season. January is a big month for us, so I will wait and see how the land lies on the 1st of February.

(12-29-2023, 06:59 AM)Derek Hardballs Wrote: [ -> ]I admire the optimism that we are going to be able to hold onto CC during this transition phase from play-off contender to midtable at best Championship team. I doubt he or his agent/advisers are going to allow his very good reputation in the game to be harmed whilst we spend years in the wilderness trying to get our club in order.

That’s the reality of what people are advocating with an owner who wants to leave without a buyer, years of ‘managed’ and I use that word with caution decline, where even a modicum of success will see any decent manager want to leave as their opportunity to do well is made less and less possible. This isn’t a business plan it’s a prolonged lurch into 1990s style failure at best.

Always the optimist, eh?

Realist, why would CC stay for three or four seasons of midtable at best managed decline if we don’t find an owner who can convince him to stay with us? You of all people on here must appreciate that money and personal success is the only driving force of professional football.

Carlos has his team around him now. He came under no illusions on the financial side of the business.
I don't see him jumping ship anytime soon.
Obviously a big money offer could tempt him away but isn't that the same for every one.
It's part of the game as is selling players. We the fans  almost believe it's unacceptable to sell players when it's normal.
My only gripe is we still are not giving the youngsters any game time.
That may change though.

I doubt a Premier club would offer him a job as he has not won promotion
and his spell in Greece was not a success.

Agree with your comments about youngsters, this has been the same with
most recent managers, some on here would say it is because they are not good
enough but here is a squad of our youth players who play at Championship
level or above, that tend to endorse the view we do not give them a chance.

Griffiths, Palmer, Fellows, Taylor, Ferguson, O'Shea, TGH, Wood, T. Irl, Azeez,
Field, Sawyers, Roofe

The strangest thing of all when talking about Carlos not playing the youth team players is his link to Bielsa and Leeds. Carlos was their U21 manager and Bielsa stacked his side full of their U21's. Most of whom no one had heard of. They were full of energy and desire and where moulded into the side he wanted and got them promotion.

That's why I'm surprised we've not seen more given a chance. Fwiw I think Caleb Taylor is an outstanding prospect but he hasn't had a kick. That may change when Ajayi leaves next month. He'll obviously start against Aldershot too but after his successful loan last season I was really expecting him to force his way into the first team this season. TBF Kipre and Bart's have been great.

Fellows definitely should have had a start by now too.

We will be lucky to keep Fellows, Leicester were interested in the summer. Now promotion is almost guaranteed an offer of £4m+ and he will be gone.
Can't be bothered to join in the speculation, but I will take GZB to task over his analysis of Cedric Kipre. "27 years old so unlikely to improve. Won't interest a Premier League club".

Just from our own ranks I could suggest John Wile, Gareth McAuley and now also Craig Dawson as players who improved through their 20s and had long careers at the top level in their 30s. Kipre is class IMO.

Gareth McAuley. Finest West Brom Centre Half since John Wile.

Chris Whyte was a fantastic player. I wonder why Arsenal let him go to USA on a free??

They had Tony Adams coming through. Make of that what you will.

Arguably our best-ever signing in the modern era in terms of value for money.

If we got offered £4m (plus a sell on clause) for a bloke who’s out of contract in the summer and hasn’t even started a game yet then we should bite the buyer’s hand off
The wages thst fellows is on is pityfull...if a good offer comes in he will quadruple his wages at least .
