I hope we can get him over the line and I hope he's already been doing some homework on us. He sounds like the polar opposite of Bruce and tbh, all he needs to do this season is keep us up.

Great read. If he comes we have to hope we give him the correct, patient context to thrive.

Couple of half decent players and a centre forward wouldn't go amiss either....
Great read that. Two things that fill me with hope.

If he can get our group of entitled, workshy, spineless bottlejobs to buy into his idea's he'll be a bloody miracle worker!
any insight on what went so wrong at Olympiokas was it? 11 games and out or something

What worries me about him here, time we really haven’t got

Olympiakos is owned by the same bloke who owns Nottingham Forest - yes, the one involved in the Greek match fixing scandal.  The same Forest owner who hired and fired several Forest managers.   Olympiakos list their first two European matches and that’s what really got him the sack.  Only had 11 games before the sack (including the two European games) but if memory serves me right there were only a couple of defeats within those other 9 games (mostly draws).

I wouldn’t read too much into that short tenure at all.

They were 5th in the league but lost 2 Europa League matches, so owner and chairman Evangelos Marinakis (who also owns Forest) twisted rather than stuck. It was Corberan's first time in Greece, so to just give him 11 games was rather unfair IMO. I wouldn't be inclined to read too much into his time there. I'd rather remember the 16 game unbeaten run he had with Huddersfield last season which took them from mid-table to second!

Hopefully the experience at Olympiakos will make him less likely to jump ship so quickly in the future.

A bit more detail.  Was appointed on 1st August 2022 just after they had been knocked out of the Qualifying round of the Champions League.

His first 3 games in charge were all in the Europa League and were 3 draws, 1-1, 2-2 and 1-1.

Next game was a 2-0 home win in the Greek Super League, followed by another 1-1 draw in the Europa League.

Then came a 0-0 draw and a 3-1 win in the Greek Super League.  So, unbeaten after 7 games in charge, with 2 wins and 5 draws.

The first defeat then came (1-2 at Nantes) in the Europa League,  followed by a 1-1 draw in the Super League.

Then a 0-3 home defeat v Freiburg in the Europa League, and a first domestic league defeat (2-1 away).  Sacked after that game.

Domestically:

Played 5, 2 wins, 2 draws, 1 defeat.  GF 7 GA 4  Pts 8 (1.6 per game)
5th in the league after being sacked

Europa League

Played 6, 0 wins, 4 draws, 2 defeats.  GF 6 GA 10  Pts 4 (0.67 per game)

So he may have a potential weakness in the Europa League - I don’t that needs to concern us too much!
Was he really 5th in the league, or was it a false 5th, as the other teams had games in hand?     Big Grin

Asking for a friend.

Correct

He just needs the tools to do the job.  That’s a new keeper and striker in Jan - even if dike does finally get fit
