Dudley is up for City Status.
IMHO Dudley has always been a Town and should stay a Town.
What are the benefits of changing?
What happens if Warwick and Dudley become cities? Is it just the towns or do the whole district/borough council get folded into the new city?

Also, why is Alcester bidding for city status?

There's absolutely no benefits at all. There's anecdotal evidence to suggest becoming a city increases tourism and consumer spending.

But it's purely an egotistical status thing. A wate of council funds that could be better spent elsewhere.
"Take me down to Dudley city
Where the grass is green
and the girls are pretty"

You are having a laugh. It's only just big enough to be a village.

No, I am not. I got told by someone I know who lives in Stratford a few weeks back, thought he was winding me up because I told him it was stupid that Warwick had bid. Then I read the news and it was true.

Would be the smallest city in England and third smallest in the UK.
I think the charm of places like Warwick is that they are towns and not cities.

There are more empty shops in Bromsgrove than Alcester. It shouldn't be a city either.
