I agreed with a lot of what you said old chap, but then again I'm just the biggest whinger around here who apparently pasts dozens of posts post-match. Some on 'ere see what they want and decry anyone who sees differently to them.

What you drinking? Sounds like the best way to deal with the emotional distress this bored causes Big Grin

Only debateable are Phillips or Molumby instead of one of the above. We know our best team there are just no reasonable alternatives when it gets stale!

Also I wouldn't say we were formationless, we've used the same one every week!

I would certainly have O'Shea in any best side.

Dearie me, Forgot about O’Shea. Obviously goes in ahead of Ajayi
No Ferenc, it's far too soon to pin all of the troubles on the manager. He seems a little inflexible, but he's working with a squad of known bottlers and failures.

I still don't understand why Ismael is getting Gould/Allardyce levels of criticism and obvious dislike so soon in his tenure and with us reasonably well-placed in the league. It seems disproportionate.

I think our best team is probably:

Robinson Hugill(!!!) Phillips
Mowatt Livermore Molumby
Townsend Clarke Bartley Furlong
Johnstone

We really do lack a focal point up top, so not sure what we'd gain from having wingers, or playing with any real width... but we have naturally attacking fullbacks so need a holding midfielder to allow them to get forward.
We have energy in the middle, but no number 10... Molumby is our best threat breaking into the opponent's box and Mowatt combines final ball and energy.

I think a narrow 4-3-3, with Robinson and Phillips getting us wide, far up the field and cutting in, and with Livermore anchoring is probably our best team. Still doesn't look good enough for top 2 mind.

Grant's our only goalscorer! First name on the team sheet. I don't think it'd be wise to take out pretty much our only goal scoring threat in the past couple of months.

Never in a million years does Hugill get in ahead of Grant, in any position on the pitch!
Meh, we are 3rd with the third best squad. We have to win the play-off's or punch above our weight in terms of talent and finish top two. If we don't, then we are fecked as a club. So either support the manager and team or question if you really want the best for the club. If you want hope for the club, being sold whilst in the Prem is the only real way this can be achieved.

Is correct.
The thing is, if you haven't got a half decent striker and a creative midfield player it's always going to be something of a struggle even though the rest of the team is probably better than most in the league.

Fuck me. I stopped reading at Hugill. No Grant? Top scorer. Our only real source of goals the last couple of months.
Can we drop the obsession with 3-4-3 and 4-3-3, we end up with the same result regardless.

Our current system is based around getting the ball wide via the wing backs and having three strikers in the box. As a base for this we have three central defenders.

In a 4-3-3 if we wanted to keep the strikers attacking the penalty area the full backs again become the only source of width. Therefore we would be reliant on a midfielder to drop and make it a back three. A - we don't have a player good enough to do this (think Fernandinho, Rodri or in recent years in the Championship, Kalvin Phillips). B - we'd still be operating with a back three when in possession. So can we all please stop whinging about it or at least do some research first.

Val has a set of principles by which he likes to play the game, this dictates the shape of the team. Given what he's had at his disposal, he's really not done too bad a job thus far.
