For those that remember the time we were trying to sign John Carew who said we weren't a big enough club, this appeared on the All Albion Fans twitter feed last night quoting SGM.

Megson Night Stories

“We spoke to John Carews Agent and he was interested in coming to the club. When we spoke again John thought it was West Ham that were interested and told us to fuck off when he realised it was West Brom”

Villa shit.
Big Grin Big Grin
What has to be remembered is in the early 2000s we were a club who'd fallen off the radar. The last 20 years has helped our profile considerably. If it had been 2012 under Roy it might be different.

Truth is though, as is often said a 26,000 stadium creates an image of what we are.

You have to act big and think big and considering we've spent many years in the last 20 in the top flight the fact the stadium is smaller than 30 others says a lot.
If you ever get a chance for an "Evening with Sir Gary" - I highly recommend it - honestly I think he could do an Edinburgh Festival show about his rivalry with Colin Wanker.

Cheers MG.
I have read many of his quips and quotes and he seems hilarious. I will keep an eye out.

Don't want it to turn into another build it and they'll come, as Bournemouth have shown until recently what's possible in their tiny stadium. However, you have to make a statement and no one has expected us to build far beyond our fanbase, but our ground now seats less people than it did when we came back in 2002.

A moderate expansion getting the stadium up to 30-31k is all that most have expected.

Anyhow, we are a better perceived club than we were then under Megson. Those 16 years away changed the view on us hugely.

I went to a Q&A evening at the club he did in the summer following our relegation from our 1st season in the prem.
One of the Groty Dick lot (who had fallen out with him over access to the training ground i think) asked "What are your plans to improve things following the disastrous season we have just experienced?"
Megson replied with a rye smile "Well i wouldn't call our highest league finish in 20 years a disaster"  Big Grin

Good answer, and quite right!
