Biggest investment in the club's history needed
#71
We will get the wrong Paul Williams on loan, Andy Townshend on a free and that chap who got signed by I think it was Sheffield who pretended that he was a professional footballer. Jay Rodriguez will go to Toon, Taylor will sign for West ham and we will finish 12th. Oh, and Gmac will sign an extension until he is 49

12th place sounds good.

Some serious dope being smoked on this thread, the only question our owners are asking is " what is the minimum we can spend to finish 17th on goal difference". Don't forget they have spent a shed load of money and getting to 6th would require a mental investment. The difference between 7 and 17th ain't that great. All that matters now is proving out the Internal Rate of return and Net present value calculations they made when they bought the club. It's only a matter of basic maths and numbers from this point in.

Biggest close season in our history, either we spend to cement our position as the top Midlands Club or fuck around as usual and watch it all dribble away in a painful, slow death march, the first steps having been taken since we secured safety with 40 points.
It really is all about ambition now.

If we've fucked around "as usual", how come its not already died a slow painful death over the last few seasons? Weve done pretty well considering we fuck about.....

"Ambition" means nowt when there's hardly any difference between 7th and 17th, Votebaggie is spot on. We ain't gonna put the sort of wage bill together that could get us into the top 6. Keep boxing clever with fees, pay decent wages like we do now, and cement mid table as much as is possible, given the small gap between mid table and the bottom few. That's the best that's going to happen.

We need about 7 playas, three or four for the first team in August, and three or four more within a year. A few will leave, generating cash, maybe Rondon. And we still have the Borja cash and the three million form the alien, so about 70 million all told (4x 10-15 milllion; 4x 5-10 million). realistically that would be 40 -50 million of new money. Football not being Monopoly, I'd be surprised if the new chairman made that available - especially given the late season collapse.

So what we'll actually get will be three or four players for fees and a couple of glue horses for frees. Max 20-30 million plus transfer money.
