“France is particularly worried not only because it has thousands of companies exporting to Britain, but also because the bulk of high-value, time-sensitive trade in fresh produce and vehicle parts between the UK and the rest of the EU passes through the Channel tunnel and British and French ports on either side of the Channel.”

Now, what was that about perpetuating a lie?

Right, so I've read all the articles (including the express ones, can't believe people still buy that rag) and watched the Reuters video and I don't get what your point is. My response, that you conveniently missed out, was in response to Tetley's point of German and French industry would put pressure on their respective governments for a new deal. Given that the EU closed their negotiations months ago and are extremely reluctant to reopen negotiations and said pressure has failed to materialise, how am I lying? Businesses saying that no-deal is shit isn't lobbying their governments to pressure the EU and reopen negotiations but is merely stating the obvious. Unless your point is that no deal is shit, then I agree, it's the least preferred outcome for everybody, but then if that is your point it's completely irrelevant to the bit you quoted.

Here's a link explaining the French, and the Dutch, hard line negotiation stance - to paraphrase, no deal is so stupid that we surely wouldn't agree to it and the UK should make its demands more clear. And that has been their stance since day one, so I wasn't lying there. And some bodies, like the French art trade body, want the French government to be even harder.

Here is the German car industry explaining why they don't care - in summary, it's about the German government's stance which is to protect the single market.

The ultimate problem with this is that the French and German industries, and the rest of the EU industries, don't care about lobbying internally on our behalf hence the EU27 have been united with the EU commission on Brexit negotiations. Do they want no deal? No. Is Brexit their main priority? No.
