We will never be able to defend under DM and Jones

We did most of the defensive basics right, we just didn’t have anyone to play the ball out to and that caused us loads of problems.

Brunt and Livermore are not good enough. At home we can just about get away with it as teams will sit back and give us space. Away from home, Blues showed that if we’re pressed we won’t compete.

This all day long. Bartley worries me and Dawson is not completely at the races, but the midfield does not offer itself to the three at the back

I haven't seen any of the game tonight, but unless a club has millions of pounds to spunk, I think they have to be pragmatic about how they set up - so IMO, coaches have to choose a system that suits the players.

I'd be interested to know if DM set out in the summer to play 352 or if he's settled on that because of the squad at his disposal. From what I have seen so far, we've been unconvincing mostly. I can't help but feel we've gone 352 because 2 of our best players are forwards (Gayle and JRod) and, more pertinently, we haven't got a RB - all sent out on loan with no replacements bought.

My hope is that we hang on in there close to the top 6 until January and sign the players we all desperately hoped for in the summer.  I suspect it's a forlorn one though, tbh.

Totally agree. The distance between the midfield two and front three is far too great and as brilliant as Barnes is on the ball he has to drop deeper and track back more.

We simply gave the ball away too much creating a high percentage of our own problems

I can't see us attacking well, either, from what I saw tonight.

I suspect that 3-5-2 is what Graeme Jones wants to play. If the first choice assistant coach had joined (was that Michael Appleton???) we might have seen a different system. Was the summer recruitment focussed on this system? Possibly not. The absence of a right back (unless Mears is really going to play) leaves us committed to what we're doing. An injury to Phillips (who was excellent tonight) would be a serious blow.

It can work if you have the best quality players, although even Man City have looked wobbly at times. When you recall how solid Dawson and Hegazi looked at the end of last season, you have to wonder whether it needed changing.

Mick McCarthy was on Talksport commentary. He was very scathing about Bartley out on the left, being skinned on a regular basis in the first half. You need the players for the system - or you have to choose a system that suits the players.
Totally agree. The players don’t look happy with it. The centre halves aren’t good enough on the ball for it and the midfield too slow. You play a formation that suits the players you have.

A senior squad of nineteen players, with one out injured, one out ill and three goalkeepers, doesn’t leave BD with a lot of options.

We’re struggling in midfield because we booted Yacob and haven’t replace Brunt. People are clamouring for Field but he’s getting better every time he doesn’t play.

The squad is unbalanced and far too light. Can’t blame BD for that.

BD is the manager - he gets the rewards and carries the can. I want him to win all games and play attractive attacking football (as he said). Unfortunately he is making error after error and hasn't either got the brains or balls to sort it.
6 games in the PL - a summer window - weeks to introduce new players and systems, 7 games have not demonstrated he has improved anything? Apart from the clubs bank balance.

Seems a bit harsh Remi 3 defeats in 13 competitive matches, doesn't strike me as the worst record ever.
