14 Day self isolation when returning from abroad
#1
Well that was short lived!!!  The notion of it being introduced pathetically too late was to ensure the virus does not return via imported cases.

So now the reason for its late introduction has gone out of the window due to pressure from the travel industry.

What a fucking shambles from start to ... well, where we are now, with the highest European death toll.

With the exception of some of Sunak's financial interventions, very little about our response seems to have been based on any coherent strategy.

Firstly, no one should be travelling abroad for non essential travel.
Secondly, quarantining folk who have come in from abroad (EU) seems a little over the top.
Thirdly (and lastly), it would be more reasonable to quarantine people living in Europe's Covid country #1 on the way out.

The pandering to the travel lobby/tourism lobby simply isn't on; the second wave is inevitable (if the first one ever truly stops).

Doubt that it is. Boris and his cronies have killed all the old and vulnerable already so whilst infections may go up deaths no doubt will continue falling/flat.

The second wave will be the wave of excrement and detritus that will come when winter comes and employment is at a record high, the high street dies, commercial properties go up for sale and the budget announces we all have to pay.

Winter is coming.

Well yes, Midsummer's day has been and gone and the nights are drawing in.

My view is that it is a mistake to drop the advice not to travel abroad. The virus has travelled around the globe mainly because of air travel. It may have been wiser for each country to really push holidays within their own national borders this year, to give us the best possible chance to avoid a second wave of this virus . But it would now appear that throughout Europe economic concerns are now prevailing.

Which begs the question if (and i think it is an if, not a when) there is a second wave this autumn/winter how will we deal with it?

There are about 10M over 65s in the UK BB, Johnson's management has only started on the old and weak. This virus has plenty more victims to claim yet and we haven't got down to the promised levelling out figure yet, there are still more excess deaths each week than there were last year. We're not done yet by a long way.

What I find the most odd in all this is those who steadfastly refuse to acknowledge the mistakes that have been made and the mixed messaging from those in power. They will eagerly try and point score and get personal with those who have pointed these things out. With others guffawing in support but it doesn’t make it any less true no matter how many times they deny it.

Is there anyone who doesn't acknowledge mistakes have been made?

I suspect what you and I think are mistakes and what should've been done differently will differ markedly.

The14 day quarantine seems broadly in line with government thinking and actions, too little
and late
