Should be worthwhile listening to Sarkar & Blakeley (herself a product of private education) if only for the LOLZ.

Blakeley is a fucking idiot. There is nothing worse than a left-wing, Oxbridge Educated, young - never done a proper job, champagne socialist, trying to tell people how they should live their lives and banning people from doing things. I am so glad that she, as well as her comrades, have lost. They should fuck-off back to the Socialist Workers Party and entertain themselves in reading groups, with locked doors.
However, it is true that Private Education drives inequality so what you could do is tax a bit of it, raise spending per pupil in the state sector, and force universities to admit students based on quotes. e.g. if private schools educate 7% of the population, then Oxbridge (+ Russell Group) can only recruit 7% of their prospective students from those schools. By the way, these are just ideas - not things I fully advocate.

I agree, they are good ideas. What an utter waste having two brain dead nonentitites supporting the motion.

They'll just have it so 7% of the intake are from public and independent schools and the remaining 93% are from a overseas.

Well my self esteem has taken a hit if people with first class degrees and masters from Oxford are "brain dead nonentities" and "fucking idiots". I won't be so vulgar as to enquire after your economic qualifications.
I think being young, female and left leaning has more to do with this bile directed towards blakeley than her intellectual capacity. Her book is well reviewed I might give it a go.

I'm a Professor of Economics. Sorry for the agricultural English, I went to school in Northfield. Nothing to do with her being female. She and her ilk are partly responsible for letting this shower of a government get a majority of 80.
Also, don't waste your life reading her book. I just read Piketty's new book - a 1000 pages but worth it. Read that instead.

Cham. read both books. Always study at least two sources, not just the ones that fit your view!

A Parisian? Well, I shall have to hold my nose...
I was under the impression Piketty fit snugly in with my current worldview already. A bit of comforting conformation biased reading might be nice For the benefit of my own education, which one of his various jobs has been 'proper'? I've never had a job that involved using a hammer or a sickle so you're giving me an existential crisis!
I fear we blame different people for letting this shower of a government in but c'est la vie.
FWIW I agree that oxbridge quotas would be a reasonable idea though I think enforcing a British state school quota would be more successful than limiting private students. As BB said they'd just ramp up overseas students instead (unless overseas students are already limited? You'd know more than me on this)
