The BBC really isn't helping itself or anyone else...

When it reports this letter like it is something significant, when there is not one person from an epidemiology or virology background amongst them. This is a now-amended article after even the likes of Paul Waugh and Maajid Nawaz - hardly Tory fans - pointed-out that the BBC placed too much emphasis on this letter. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-51892402

The way that the media and some idiots on social media are reacting is shameful. Rightly or wrongly, the Government thinks its strategy is the one which will minimise loss of life. 'Herd immunity' is NOT the policy adapted, but if it was that principle actually seeks to protect the vulnerable. Yet, we have people who are totally thick whining about 'eugenics'. These are the same people who would be screeching about a 'fascist coup' if the PM availed himself of the powers under the Civil Contingencies Act to impose limitations on liberty.

People using this situation merely as a stick to attack the Government are truly beneath contempt. They are attacking for the sake of it even though they know that their pressure may lead to a different strategy being implemented, which may cost more life.

As for that letter, I'll leave you with what this virologist says, "Please, see below for the list of scientists who have signed the open letter to urge the UK gov to implement stricter measures.

I do not recognised anybody and I have been a virologist for 15 years."https://twitter.com/ViralRNA/status/1238931540089987074

PS - the letter is signed by 88 PhD candidates, one MSc student, at least 10 people whose 'expertise' is not listed...And en employment law lecturer.

'Scientists' says the BBC.

Par for the course with some of the clowns who politick on here.

I now see that the hashtag 'WheresBoris' is trending on Twitter.

He'll be running the country and asking JCB to manufacture components for ventilators. It's like how people wanted him to magically appear at the sire of floods what would have been the point? To delay work for however long the visit is for and to have photos to placate people too dim to realise that he would actually be wasting time?

Other delights included 'ToryGenocide' and 'BorisTheButcher'.

Can't help but wonder if this is all being coordinated by Momentum types, Continuity Remain or both.

Whoever is behind it - like I said, beneath contempt.

It also doesn't help when people are *still* Tweeting-out the clip of Johnson on This Morning where he said there is 'take it in the chin' at one extreme and draconian measures at the other. Dishonest people are using a clip to imply that the strategy is the former, by cutting-out his words that follow.

There really are not the words for this, are there?

Here's what supposed philosopher AC Grayling has to say:

"Well, there could be a silver lining or two.
Brexit stopped.
Johnson out.
Realisation that in difficult & dangerous times we need cooperation, unity, and grown-up intelligent leadership. https://twitter.com/borisjohnson/status/...5629859840"

And there we have it. That's what it is really all about for these people. And, no, it can't 'be stopped' when we have already left and Art 49 would need to be used to take us back in.

Again - beneath contempt.

And yet, the Tweet from the BBC's Pallab Ghosh is still there, saying: "Coronavirus: Scientists say UK virus strategy is 'risking lives'". https://twitter.com/BBCPallab/status/123...4393731072

Yeah, all those students and an employment law lecturer.

Any notion of criticism of the government over any issue really gets you excited.

What sort of society is it when governments are not allowed to be questioned?

No, it doesn't. People exploiting a volatile situation for political points-scoring without any regard to the cost to human health and life does tend to irk me, yeah. As it should anyone with an ounce of decency, whatever their politics.

You can criticise the Government all you want. I can also criticise your criticisms. They call it 'freedom of expression'. It doesn't mean that you have a right to opine and be free from critique, sorry.
