We can debate his record, which is hit and miss, but as a recent PL boss probably commanding a half decent wage IMO this at least shows more intent and ambition than appointing the likes of Cowley or Appy.

Very true, he is undoubtedly a “name” at this level. Hopefully this will give us a bit more pulling power in the loan market.

The only saving grace as mentioned is that he would surely not come without some decent money being available, at our level, whether that is for signings or retaining players.
Nothing we can really do bar get behind the fuggers, again.

Arf!

Only the second Hrvatski to be involved with us apart from superfan goran ivanišević.

First signing?

That could well be a decent signing.

Reece Oxford wasn't convincing in his 8 appearances for Augsburg this season. He was OK in the air, but his passing wasn't up to Bundesliga standards, even in a struggling FCA team. Augsburg aren't going to give a relegation clause to someone who would only be a back-up player.

Reece Oxford made 6 starts for Augsburg last season, all were losses in which he conceded 25 goals while on the pitch and picked up one red card #WBA

Sounds like a cool dude to me. Tongue

Jenkins has already asked him for a loan to buy some players.

No but the Reece Oxford link is a nod in that direction.

(06-11-2019, 09:46 PM)Duffers Wrote: If he does sign it’s one of those appointments that will either be fantastic or a complete car crash.

Hopefully the former.

Going to be a real challenge for him as he's not used to having no money and dealing with championship level players.

We'll soon find out what he's made of.

Hopefully he'll be able to bring in 2 or 3 gems that are maybe relatively unknown from Croatia or Turkey.

(06-12-2019, 06:49 AM)SW4Baggie Wrote: I think he’ll make things interesting.

The positive is that he won’t be cheap, so I’d imagine we’ll have committed to backing him with a suitable budget which is distinctly more positive than the recent malaise around the place would suggest, however his track record is decidedly mixed at best, and I can’t help but feel the budget we’re allocating to him could have been better used with a safer pair of hands.

This is effectively our last throw of the dice without external investment and I’m surprised that such a risk adverse board, and lengthy managerial search has ended in such a wild card.

Dowling has to be the safe pair of hands.  I'm sure it's been made clear to Bilic that we won't be signing any fancy dans on big contracts.

(06-12-2019, 07:54 AM)tiptontown Wrote: Open minded on this. He did pretty well at West Ham before things started going a bit pear shaped.
Most managers seem to have that kind of history though during their career.
If he lasts anywhere near 2 years he'd have done alright.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt - the season it went pear-shaped was when they moved to the London Stadium and Payet was playing up.

They got off to a disastrous start there not just on the pitch.

Apart from his last job he's always won more games than he's lost and had a very high win percentage at Hadjuk Split (68%) Croatia (64.6) and Besiktas (51.6).

Not so good at Locomotiv (40.6) and Spam (37.8).

Much better win record than Pulis and I would imagine in a much more pleasing manner but only managed a third of the games Pulis has.
