Fixing the deficit. - The liquidator - 05-14-2020

You can see already  questions being asked how on earth are we going to fix it . I know taxes are going to go up but as long as the NHS get a good pay rise I can live with that .

Then you have cuts to be made I think we all agree we cant go on spending as it is . So where do you expect cuts to be made and will it be worse than the last 10 years most on here are very good at  things like this but please try and not to have your political one eyed perspective on it ( derek ) .

A big part of the problem is a result of the cuts made over the last 10 years, let's not get into repeating the same problems. Taxation will have to go obviously but that includes corporation tax which will have a knock on affect will life after Brexit - The govt were hoping to attract new business with a low taxation carrot, but that will need to be rethought now. The one thing that has saved us in this pandemic is the state, NHS, furloughing - let's not forget that and throw it away chasing an ideological dream.

I just hope some people  3 years down the line remember that this government gave them a lifeline for 6 months .

I can just see the council's getting next to fuck all that's my fear .

Perhaps people may even be grateful that we have still retained some socialist institutions like the NHS and a purely right wing approach just wouldn't have worked Wink

The socialist institution that was the brainchild of a liberal acting on the instruction of a conservative?

Neither were the right wing of their parties and the aim was to appease the working class once the labour party had became a true political force and were already campaigning on a system of health protection. Of course, you already knew that - I suspect you were playing devils advocate!

Either way, it was just a petty jibe at liquidator's more extreme reading material and wasn't meant to be taken too seriously!

You mentioned they should be grateful, I just countered it! But seriously, I was only joking, I wasn't trying to offend you or bring up old debates. Although, it is a political forum, so it's likely politics might be mentioned, even if you decide we shouldn't...I feel a night of the long knives coming on...

Being political is fine but it's when it gets tribalism it just does my head in ...I've been guilty of it ...

I wasn't trying to be tribalist, I don't trust either party and I would be hard pressed to make a positive vote for either if there was an election tomorrow. Neither are of my tribe. In fact, the only time I was happy to vote for a party was blair's back in the early 90's and look how that turned out...

But I'm happy to move on.
