No, realistic. Half the people with Covid haven't even taken a test let alone isolating. At least a fifth of those who test positive aren't isolating.

And yet there have been no more deaths from respiratory illnesses than in a normal Winter.

The only selfish people here now are those denying our kids a speedy return to normality.

Your selfish twonk who is using education and children as an excuse for your selfish libertarian nonsense.

Bereaved families say government is 'opening the floodgates for COVID-19'
COVID-19 Bereaved Families for Justice has hit out at the government's aim to end self-isolation requirements this month.

"Whilst the Prime Minister is bragging about lifting restrictions a month early, we’re struggling to keep up with the number of hearts that need to be drawn on the Covid Memorial Wall," the group wrote on Twitter.

They pointed out that nearly 2,000 people are still dying from COVID each week.
"The Prime Minister might wish that this disease was no more dangerous than the flu, but the reality is that he is throwing the most vulnerable in our society to the wolves," they said.

"Just as [Downing Street] partied whilst the rest of us endured brutal lockdowns, they are once again opening the floodgates for Covid-19, with others being left to suffer the deadly consequences."

Ending COVID restrictions will cause 'huge anxiety' and 'complicated concerns' for vulnerable population, charity says
Blood cancer charity Myeloma UK has said the announcement by Boris Johnson to end COVID restrictions will cause "huge anxiety" and "complicated concerns" for the clinically extremely vulnerable population, writes Ian Sale.
Jo Nove, the charity's acting chief executive, added: "We cannot allow those who are vulnerable to be forgotten as the world opens back up.
“Myeloma patients are much more likely than the average person to contract COVID-19 and significantly less likely to have a strong immune response to a COVID-19 vaccination.

"There is currently no way to determine which patients have received sufficient protection from vaccines.
"This makes the lifting of social distancing and protection measures a highly stressful time for them.
“Immunocompromised patients have no way of knowing the level of risk they face as they go about their day-to-day lives.
"Returning to a place of work, doing the food shop, or dropping the children off at school all mean additional exposure with potentially serious consequences.

"This is especially concerning if there is no longer a legal requirement to self-isolate and we rely on people doing the right thing and staying home when they are ill."

Ignored the toll on Children’s mental health I see.

The % of adults showing moderate to sever signs of depression rose from 11% in 2019 to 31% in 2020! Thanks to lockdowns, which you want to continue infinitum, resulted in a drop of therapy starts by a third.

Thousands of people who are vulnerable to Covid have children, some will be children, have jobs, have responsibilities. They suffer with mental health problems, their education suffers, they are at more risk when they go for routine operations. How dare anyone else suggest these people are selfish because they want to keep their families safe, they want their parents, brothers sisters not to get ill from Covid and potentially die. For example vulnerable children under 11 are only just starting to have their first jab in England and it’ll be months before the next one.

They are the victims in this ludicrous political motivated push to allow Covid positive people to mix with others like Covid is the common cold, and for whose benefit? A lying cheating, Prime Minister who will throw anyone under the bus to save his own arse. This country gets worse every day, morally bankrupt and callous.

Presses ignore.

Lockdowns are quite a long way removed from simply asking people with a highly contagious respiratory illness to stop home for a few days if they get it.

Common sense should dictate you'd do this with any illness, but then again that's the problem with common sense.

If you're removing all restrictions and going 'full normal' then surely the final step is to stop reporting case numbers?

This has nothing to do with common sense it’s a politically motivated decision by a Prime Minister who is more concerned with doing the bidding of right wingers on his back benches, abs why because whilst others tried to keep others safe, he allowed his own office and potentially home to be party central. Utterly contemptible given his position.

Well, quite. If you're lucky enough to have been eligible for a vaccine and are no longer required to shield you have been able to live a pretty normal life since last summer. Isolating when you're ill, with whatever illness shouldn't be law, it should just be the norm. I can't believe people don't do this anyway.

This exactly - we'll never get back to normal if we don't apply that approach. The days of people 'soldiering on' and coughing and spluttering in the office (and school) should be gone, and until people realise that then we will never get back to normal. I can see, before too long, someone taking a company to court for corporate manslaughter after their relation has caught covid at the office because they were mandated to attend.

It should also be noted that within the next few days we should drop below 10k in hospital in England for the 1st time since last July. It's also interesting to note that the fall in hospitalisations this year is not as steep as it was last year, the fall from c.15k to 10k in 2021 took 12 days, this year that same fall has taken 19 days so far with another 5 or 6 I'm guessing to get to 10k. That indicates that although the symptoms might be milder it is either keeping people in for longer or there are more people being hospitalised and released with a quicker turnaround.

As an aside my mother in law was admitted to Heartlands last night, she has COPD and had an exacerbation which required an ambulance and admission. She was scared and anxious but none of her 3 kids (all adults in their 40s and 50s) were allowed into A&E with her, and trying to get any information is next to impossible. She's on a cardio ward now but again no visitors allowed. This is another knock on from a chronic mistreatment of the NHS over the past decade and more which has left it completely unprepared for these past 2 years.

I'm afraid your visceral and slightly unhinged hatred of Boris Johnson is blinding you to the fact that tens of millions of people want to get back to normal, not a few right wingers on the Tory back benches. If Boris was interested in the slightest in appeasing the right of the Tory Party he wouldn't be embarking on the expansion of the state and increasing taxes to their highest level since the 1950s.
